Bailout

an injection of liquidity given to an institution to meet its short-term obligations.

The government-sponsored bailout will empty the Treasury reserves earmarked for Obama’s health care reform.

Originally a term used in legal registers, bailout has recently gained prominence in connection with state-sponsored subsidies to help crippled banks and financial markets. Used as a verb, phrasal verbs are stressed on the particle:

The government had to bail the company OUT of financial difficulty

Used as a noun, the verb particle is stressed:

 The government-sponsored BAILout

This property of phrasal verbs is used across the board: the page LAYout, to lay a page OUT.
